Black History: A Personal Journey

These essays reflect the memories, artifacts and stories I’ve collected from childhood through today…which is whatever day you’re reading.

I work as author, actor, journalist, educator, pastor, playwright, audiobook narrator.

I live as spouse, dad with passion for creating humorous, life-impacting art, stimulating thought and conversation — these are the things I do.

Who I am is a Christ-follower, American, American of African Descent. There are elements of who I am in all I do.

I’ve been blessed to travel well-trodden and off-the-beaten path places, taking with me a semi-photographic memory and, frequently, photographic equipment.

I’ve met a wide swath of people who have made history, some of which has made headlines. I’ve met more whose history is known only among the small circle in which they’ve travelled. In each realm, some have been personable. Some have been disappointing. All have made an impact.

I pray their stories, my observations and commentaries have an impact on you…to research your own family…tell your own stories…make your own history.
